“Yeah, we’re still in business, come on in” he called from a back room. “We’ve been busier but we’re still burning wax.”

I step around the sleeping dog and stick my head around the corner. There on the walls hang the pictures. Kurt looks like he’s all of about twelve years old. They’re almost all represented, all who flew the flannel and joined the fray in the mosh-pits. Somehow you’re reminded of the Douglas firs and giant sequoias that hug the roads and hillsides of the region. Sentinels of a past time and place. Gone but certainly not forgotten.

Dirk Williams, the founder of Cancelled Gig, catches me staring at the images. He is represented in each picture standing next to the stars who had not yet reached their zenith. “They all came through here at one point,” said Williams. “But they had other trains to catch. This was merely a way station where they honed their chops and earned their future places in the firmament.”
